Children in Worship

Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.
— Matthew 19:14

At UPC, children are encouraged to participate in worship in the sanctuary with their family members for as much of the service as the family would like. While we are mindful that noisy children can distract from the worship experience of those sitting near them (including family), at UPC we believe that children should be seen and heard. Children often lead our opening procession, contribute to prayers, share joys and concerns, and sing in the vibrant Children’s Choir.

About 15 to 20 minutes into the 11 a.m. service, most children of kindergarten age and younger are excused to child care in
Room 5 of the Children’s Center following the Children’s Moment. Also, children's books that relate to the morning’s Scripture and sermon, as well as coloring materials, are available in the back of the Sanctuary.

Our child care is open to infants and children up to first grade, lovingly managed by experienced child care givers, and is available on Sundays from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. (other times available for special events.) Stop by and introduce yourself to our caring staff (and be sure to let your children see the playground!)

During services, our Narthex is available as a "cryroom,” where you can see and hear the worship service as you comfort a fussy child or let a restless toddler roam.
